Choose the Right Shoes: Keeping Fashion and Function in One

As we stroll around the malls or scroll on online shops to look for the right footwear, our minds run on fashion and function. We all would want to make sure that while we get to dive in with the latest trends, we are also keeping our feet in good shape. To let you know more about how to exactly do this, here are a few tips on how to choose the right shoes:

1. It’s good that we know the size of our shoes, but sometimes, it isn’t enough. Trace your foot on a paper and take it with you wile choosing. Place a shoe you would like to try on top of the paper and see if it fits. If it is shorter or narrower than your foot trace, don’t try it on.

2. Because your foot naturally expands during the day, the best time to shop for shoes is during the afternoon.

3. The pair of socks you used upon trying the shoes before purchase is what you should only use when wearing it on normal days.

4. Because the feet change as you age, it is wise to have your feet measured every purchase of new shoes. If in any case one foot is larger than the other, choose the size that best fits the larger foot.

5. Stand in the shoes, pressing gently on top to make sure that you have a distance of about half an inch between the end of the shoe and your longest toe. This makes sure that you have enough space to press your foot forward when you walk.

6. Once you’ve tried to put the shoes on, walk them around to know how they exactly feel and they should feel comfortable on the first time you wear it.

7. Sometimes, we think that because the shoes reflect the shoe size that we have, it can be the right shoes for us. Sizes vary depending on the manufacturer. Remember that above all, in choosing shoes, we should trust our own comfort level rather than what the shoe description says.

8. The width and the length are important. If your feet are compresses in a particular shoe, ask for assistance to look for a wider size. Remember that it could not help to buy a ‘bigger’ size, but not any wider.

9. Inspect the inside of the shoes: tags or seams present might irritate or cause discomfort on your foot.

10. And finally, the soles. They should be strong enough to give protection from sharp objects. Take note of how they feel while you walk them around the store, especially on hard surfaces and compare how they feel in soft and hard floors.
